I Rhinos presentano il terzo e ultimo giocatore import che farà parte del team per il campionato 2020 di Prima Divisione, si tratta di Richard Nase, edge rusher classe ’95 alto 1,92 m per 107 kg, proveniente dal piccolo college di Shippenburg (Pennsylvania), di Division II NCAA.
Giocatore molto fisico e dotato di ottima tecnica, Nase è un difensore capace di giocare anche in attacco, e nei suoi anni di università ha raccolto numerosi riconoscimenti:
- Three-Time All-PSAC East (2017 First Team, 2016 Second Team, 2015 First Team)
- Two-Time Football Gazette All-Region (2017 Third Team, 2015 Second Team)
- One-Time D2CCA All-Region (2015 Second Team)
Coach Piccoli ha ora una freccia in più per la difesa, e magari anche per l’attacco.
Ecco l’intervista a Nase al suo arrivo a Milano (nella parte inferiore l’intervista in inglese):
Ciao Richard, pochi giorni fa hai firmato per i Rhinos Milano, come ti senti?
Sono eccitato e grato di poter continuare a giocare a football in Italia. Il football per me è tutto, e poter condividere questa passione con altri compagni è un’opportunità incredibile, non vedo l’ora.
Cosa ne pensi di Milano?
Milano è una bella città con moltissime attrattive, dai bei ristoranti fino alla moda, questa città sembra piena di vita. Non vedo l’ora di poter camminare per strada e scoprire tutto quello che Milano offre, dai monumenti agli edifici famosi, questa città è ricca di storia e cultura.
Cosa significa per te giocare a football in Italia?
Poter giocare a football in Italia è un’esperienza che ti cambia la vita. Significa poter condividere la passione per questo sport in un’altra parte del mondo, aiutando a fare la differenza con i miei compagni di squadra, mettendo in pratica tutto quello che ho imparato nei miei anni di gioco in America. Poter rappresentare in Italia il mio paese è un’opportunità che non mi lascerò sfuggire.
Cosa si devono aspettare i tifosi dei Rhinos?
I tifosi dei Rhinos devono aspettarsi un giocatore che darà sempre il tutto per tutto. Per me non c’è sensazione migliore di placcare il quarterback avversario. Adoro l’atmosfera del game day, e spero di far divertire i nostri tifosi e renderli partecipi quanto lo sono io.
Quali sistemi difensivi conosci e hai giocato nella tua carriera?
Durante la mia carriera sportiva ho giocato in diversi sistemi difensivi, ma con Mike Burkett, una delle più grandi menti difensive che ho avuto come coach, ho visto come semplici schemi difensivi come la 3-4, possano generare una varietà di azioni in grado di fermare qualsiasi azione d’attacco fino a schemi più complicati come la 5-2.
Qual il tuo miglior ricordo di football giocato?
Uno dei miei ricordi più belli è quando sono riuscito a saltare su un fumble in endzone contro Slippery Rock, segnando il touchdown della vittoria nel mio ultimo anno a Shippensburg. Non c’era sensazione migliore di correre fuori dal campo con la palla in mano verso tutti gli amici a bordo campo.
Chi è stato l’allenatore più importante della tua carriera?
L’allenatore più importante della mia carriera è senza dubbio Lon Hazlet. Dire che è solo un allenatore sarebbe un eufemismo, mi ha insegnato cose che il football non potrebbe mai insegnarmi. Se non fosse per lui, non sarei l’uomo che sono oggi e gliene sarò per sempre grato.
Cosa ne pensi fare anche qualche snap in attacco?
Sono molto emozionato di poter giocare nuovamente in attacco e avere la palla tra le mani. Ho aspettato molto di avere un’altra occasione per riuscire a segnare un touchdown scontrandomi con i difensori avversari.
Che tipo di compagno di squadra sarai?
Sarò un compagno di squadra divertente che lavorerà duramente ogni giorno. Ho intenzione di guidare la squadra prima con le mie azioni, e poi con le parole. Posso promettere ai miei compagni di squadra che avranno il mio pieno impegno per far parte di questa famiglia contribuendo con la mia etica di duro lavoro.
Quali sono le tue passioni oltre al football?
Una delle mie passioni oltre al football è il wrestling, che ho praticato durante gli anni di high school. Tra le altre cose, mi piace molto giocare ai videogiochi e cucinare.
Vuoi dire qualcosa in italiano ai tuoi compagni di squadra e ai tuoi fan?
Voglio dire che sono eccitato per la stagione che affronteremo e che non vedo l’ora di incontrare i miei nuovi compagni di squadra e i tifosi. Go Rhinos #hornsup

Richard, you signed a few days ago for the Rhinos Milan, how do you feel?
I’m excited and blessed for the opportunity to be able to continue to play football in a great country such as Italy. Football means the world to me and to be able to share that feeling with others is an incredible chance that I can’t wait for.
What do you think of Milan?
Milan looks like a beautiful city with lots to offer. From the fine restaurants to the fashionable clothes the city seems to be full of life. I can’t wait to be able to walk the streets and explore everything that it has to offer. From the famous artworks to the famous buildings the city is rich with history and a new culture to explore.
What does it mean to you to play football in Italy?
To be able to play football in Italy is a life changing experience. It means I can share the American football culture with another part of the world. I’ll be able to help make a difference in the lives of the younger players with the skills that I learned from my years of playing in America. To be able to represent where I am from in the great country of Italy is an honor that I will not take for granted.
What should Rhinos fans expect?
Rhinos fans can expect a dog that never backs down. There is no better feeling than hitting a quarterback and letting them know who you are. I put the pads on and take the game to another level. I feed off the game day atmosphere and love to get fans excited and involved.
Which defensive systems have you known and played in your career?
Through my many years of playing football I have played in many different defensive systems. Playing with some of the greatest defensive minds such as Mike Burkett I saw simple defensive schemes such as a 3-4 do a wide and vast variety of attacks that could stop any offense. As well as more complex schemes like a 5-2.
What was your best memory in football?
One of my best memories of football would have to be jumping on the fumbled snap in the endzone agaisnt Slippery Rock for the game winning touchdown my senior year at Shippensburg. There was no better feeling than running off the field with the ball in my hand to all the homies on the sideline.
Who was the most important coach of your career?
The most important coach of my career would without a doubt be Lon Hazlet. To say he is just a coach would be a huge understatement. He taught me things that the game of football could never teach me. If it were not for him I would not be the man I am today and im forever thankful for that.
What do you think about playing a few snaps on offense again?
Im very excited to be able to play offense again and have the ball in my hands. I’ve been waiting for another opportunity to be able to score touchdowns and run through a defenders face over and over and over.
What kind of teammate are you going to be?
I will be a fun teammate that will work hard everyday no matter what. I plan to lead with my pads first and my words second. I can promise that my teammates will have my full commitment on becoming apart of their family and contributing to their hard working ethic.
What are your passions besides football?
One of my other passions other than football is wrestling. I wrestled all throughout jr high and highschool and have missed it ever since. I also enjoy playing video games and cooking food.
Do you want to say something in italian to your teammates and fans?
I want to say that I’m excited for the season to come and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and fans. Go Rhinos #hornsup.
