Fabio Tortosa lo aveva promesso: l’Italia tornerà a giocare un ruolo importante in seno all’IFAF, la Federazione internazionale tornata a parlare una lingua sola dalla scorsa estate. Così è stato, e oggi è arrivata la bellissima notizia che tutti stavamo aspettando: i Campionati Europei U19 del 2019 si faranno in Italia, a Bologna per la precisione, dal 24 luglio al 3 agosto, grazie alla tenacia di Tortosa e all’impegno della FIDAF, che ha lavorato duramente per riuscire a confezionare in tempi record un’offerta capace di sbaragliare il resto della concorrenza.
Queste le parole di un emozionato Fabio Tortosa, pochi minuti dopo la ricezione della lettera con la quale IFAF ha confermato l’approvazione della candidatura italiana:
“Abbiamo lavorato a fari spenti per lunghe settimane e sin dal primo momento, dimostrando anche agli scettici la concreta volontà dell’Italia di collaborare pienamente con la Federazione Internazionale. Già in occasione del Congresso di Panama, la FIDAF aveva offerto la propria piena disponibilità agli organi dirigenziali di IFAF, pur sapendo dell’avvenuta assegnazione di quasi tutti gli eventi programmati per il 2019. Restava un solo spiraglio, quello dei Campionati Europei U19 e noi ci abbiamo creduto, confezionando un’offerta inarrivabile per chiunque. Voglio ringraziare ufficialmente Havas SE, nella persona di Federico Fantini e di tutto il suo staff, e poi l’Ufficio Comunicazione di FIDAF, Luca Correnti e Barbara Allaria, che sono stati l’instancabile braccio operativo di questa prima, importante fase di lavoro e che hanno consentito di rispettare le tempistiche, quasi proibitive, imposte per la consegna delle candidature. Sarà il primo Campionato Europeo della storia ad avere una così elevata partecipazione: oltre 500 persone, tra atleti, tecnici e personale di servizio verranno ospitati nelle strutture scelte a Bologna e siamo certi che l’Italia sarà all’altezza del compito che le è stato assegnato. Sappiamo di avere gli occhi di tutta l’Europa addosso, nonché quelli del CONI, ma siamo pronti ad accettare la sfida! Questa è una risposta chiara anche a chi, dopo l’esclusione dell’Italia dagli Europei senior, aveva dichiarato che la Federazione italiana non contava più nulla a livello internazionale…”
Ancora una volta, sarà HAVAS SE a lavorare al fianco della Federazione e questa partnership ha contribuito a rafforzare la candidatura italiana, ottenendo questo ambito riconoscimento.

Saranno due gli stadi coinvolti nella kermesse continentale, il C.S. Bernardi (Parco Lunetta Gamberini) e il C.S. Arcoveggio, con il pieno appoggio dell’entusiasta Comune di Bologna, che ha accolto la candidatura italiana con immediato interesse.
Il format proposto dall’Italia prevede la partecipazione di 8 nazioni, ma dovremo attendere ancora qualche giorno per conoscere l’esatta struttura tecnica dei Campionati, che vede tuttavia già Italia e Austria qualificate.
“Nelle prossime settimane saremo a Bologna per incontrare le istituzioni e cominciare a lavorare sui dettagli operativi dell’evento. Finalmente possiamo tornare a pensare anche all’aspetto tecnico, con l’obiettivo di preparare una Squadra Nazionale all’altezza di una competizione di questa portata. Ci auguriamo che questa notizia aggiunga ancora maggiori motivazioni a tutti gli atleti e i tecnici italiani attualmente impegnati nei Campionati Giovanili”, conclude Tortosa.
Grande la soddisfazione di Leoluca Orlando, Presidente della FIDAF, che non ha mai smesso di credere nel ruolo dell’Italia all’interno dello scacchiere europeo: “Sono stati mesi difficili per l’Europa del football americano, divisa in due da problematiche difficili da spiegare soprattutto ai nostri atleti. Sono immensamente felice di questa assegnazione e sono certo che saremo in grado di dimostrare, ancora una volta, di meritare la fiducia che oggi IFAF ha ufficialmente manifestato nei nostri confronti”.

THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO ITALY!
Italy has won its bid to organize the U19 European Championship in Bologna from July 24 to August 3, 2019. Havas Sports & Entertainment will team up again with the FIDAF for this important event that places Italy center stage in continental football.
Fabio Tortosa had promised us: Italy will play an important role in again IFAF, the International Federation of American Football that began speaking again with one voice in the summer. That’s what happened, and today we got the fantastic news that we’ve all been waiting for: Italy will hold the 2019 U19 European Championship in Bologna from July 24 to August 3 thanks to the tenacity of Fabio Tortosa and the dedication of the FIDAF, which has worked really hard to put together a bid in record time that could beat the competition.
This is what a thrilled Fabio Tortosa had to say just minutes after receiving the letter from IFAF confirming the federation’s approval of the Italian bid:
“We’ve been working in the dark for weeks on end and right from the start we managed to prove, even to the sceptics, that Italy was truly determined to cooperate fully with the International Federation of American Football. The FIDAF had already made its willingness to move forward clear to the IFAF management during the Panama Congress, even though it knew that practically all the events scheduled for 2019 had already been assigned. We only had one ray of hope left and that was to host the U19 European Championship. And we believed in ourselves and put together an offering that no one else could match. I would like to officially thank Havas SE, in particular Federico Fantini and all his staff, and Luca Correnti and Barbara Allaria in the FIDAF Press Office who have tirelessly served as the operational arm during this first important phase, enabling us to meet the almost prohibitive deadlines set for registering the bids. This will be the first time ever that so many people will have been involved in the European Championship: between athletes, technical staff and service personnel, more than 500 people will stay in the selected hotels in Bologna and we have no doubt that Italy is up to fulfilling the task that it has been assigned. We know that the eyes of all of Europe are on us now, as well as those of CONI, but we’re ready to take on the challenge! This is also a clear response to all those who said that the Italian federation was no longer worthy anything on the international scene after we had been excluded from the Senior European Championships…”
Once again HAVAS SE will work alongside the federation in a partnership that had helped to bolster Italy’s bid and gain this highly sought-after acknowledgement.

Two stadiums have been selected for the European Championship – C.S. Bernardi (Parco Lunetta Gamberini) and C.S. Arcoveggio – and the event has the full support of an enthusiastic City of Bologna, which instantly welcomed the Italian bid.
Eight nations will participate in the format proposed by Italy. Although we know that Italy and Austria have already qualified, we will have to wait another couple of days to find out exactly who is playing whom in the championships.
“We will be in Bologna over the coming weeks to meet with the authorities and organizations, so we can start working out the operational details of the event. We can also finally get back to thinking about football, so we can prepare a national team that is up to the mark for a competition of this magnitude. We hope that this news will provide added motivation for all players and coaching staff currently involved in championships for youngsters in Italy,” concluded Fabio Tortosa.
FIDAF President Leoluca Orlando is over the moon as he had never stopped believing in Italy’s role on the European stage, “These have been difficult months for Europeans involved in American football. Europe had been split in two by problems that not easily explained, especially to our players. I’m immensely happy Italy has been assigned the championships and I know that once again we will demonstrate that we deserve the trust officially placed in us today by the IFAF.”
